So, I’m just a tiny bit excited about the newest members to our farm…I managed to post pictures on Facebook and Twitter within an hour of their arrival!! (I didn’t get my kids pictures up this fast!) We are the proud new owners of a team!!

Chester and Danny seem like pretty calm guys and I can’t wait to get to know them…and for the memories to start filing away in our kid’s minds. This is an adventure that my husband and I always talked about; am I a lucky girl or what?! Not many people get to cross things off their bucket list at age 30!!
Growing up, my best friend lived on a huge ranch where they spent just about every day on horses. I loved going there and doing everything from either horseback or with the team. They fed all their cattle with a team and wagon, and in the winter would take all (7!!) of us kids out for sleigh rides, pulling our sleds behind the wagon and out to the hills. There we would have bonfires and toboggan till we couldn’t see the top of the hill anymore. I LOVED those times and think about them often! One memory is that S., my friend’s dad, would never stop the wagon if you fell off your sled…we did a lot of running to catch up!! (Good exercise…could you imagine the kids now a days?!?! They would never make it!)
This world that my kids are growing up in is so different than the one I remember from my childhood, and it really wasn’t that long ago that I was a kid…it scares me how much kids are missing because they are walking around with those (stupid) earphones in listening to an ipod, or face buried in a video game as they sit in a restaurant eating dinner with their family. What kind of memories is this making for a kid?
“Remember the time we drove to the Grand Canyon?”
“Ummmm….was that when we watched Nemo 77 times in the car?”
What happened to campfires and playing kick the can in the dark? Or laying out in your sleeping bags on the trampoline and looking at the stars? Building forts in the bales and scaring the pants off your city cousins when the coyotes began to howl? Or skating for hours and hours on the dugout while your parents sat visiting around a bonfire? Camping in a coulee and hauling everything down there on your horse? Or Riding bareback everywhere all summer?
Memories like those don’t just appear…you have to make them. How much time and effort my parents put into making sure that we got to go fishing or camping or riding…I’m only starting to realize now how much work that must have been, but at the time, I just got to have the time of my life.
This is the first step in making that happen for my kids…

I am so excited!!

I read a great post yesterday from the ladies at Double D Ranchwear (Double Talk) and it got me thinking….
Why don’t I write more thank-you notes?
I LOVE getting real mail, you know, the kind with stamps and handwritten by someone who took the time to think of me. And I know that everyone else feels the same way…who doesn’t like a letter instead of bills and junk mail?
So I am going to challenge myself and all of you lovely people to write a letter this week. It can be just one quick “I thought of you today” note or an actual letter to someone you haven’t seen in a while, (and thanks to Cheryl and the ladies for the great idea!).
And to “Farmer Trophy Wife” things up…here are some fabulous stationary items to inspire you!!
Aren’t these fantastic?!?!

These cards are soooo neat….you can carve the front with whatever you want!!
I love personalized anything…aren’t these beautiful?!

And these are my favorite!!! I think I might need to order these ASAP!!

This is an email that my littlest sister wrote and sent out today….
I thought it was so great that I want to share it with all of you in honor of Earth Day!
p.s. this is my sister and her NEW husband!!!

Happy Earth Day Everyone!
This year I wanted to focus on how we can change our perspective about
being green and get you thinking about how you can live a more
sustainable lifestyle.
What does being “green” mean exactly?
It means reducing your negative impact on the planet; living with
nature instead of trying to subdue it, and choosing products for
positive impact on home, health and environment.
Going green is a process.
It doesn’t happen overnight. Don’t fall into the trap of thinking you
have to do everything at once. And don’t get overwhelmed or feel
guilty. Just start…somewhere…do something. Any little effort
that you can make to living a more sustainable lifestyle is a step in
the right direction!
Be mindful.
In all you do, in every step you take. The ideal mental state is one
of balance – being careful and thoughtful in all things. HOW YOU WALK
THROUGH THIS WORLD MATTERS!!!
Walk Softly.
The old myth of unlimited growth alienates human beings from nature.
To live sustainably we must respect nature and live by its rules. We
must walk softly, leaving as small a footprint as possible.
“Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread
within it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves. All things
are bound together. All things connect.”
~ Chief Seattle, 1855
Get close to nature.
Camp out, hike, canoe, grow a garden, learn from naturalists.
Understand how the natural world works. It provides the perfect
model.
Think before you buy.
Is it well made? Is it recyclable? Will it hold its value? Do you
love it? Can you do without it? By reducing how much you consume,
you will reduce how much you emit.
Make this your shopping motto:
Buy green, buy fair, buy local, buy used and most importantly, buy
less.
Going green is not a trend! It’s a lifestyle change that will take
time and some getting used to but it’s the little things that will
make a big difference in your impact on the planet and environment.
Commit to one simple act like buying locally or using re-usable
grocery bags. Think about all the things you do during a normal day
that could be modified slightly to reduce your footprint. For
example, instead of using the drive-thru and getting your morning
coffee in a paper cup take a few extra minutes and walk into your
local Timmies and use a go-cup! These small acts will add up and
really make a difference and before long it will become just a regular
part of your daily routine.
Remember that nobody’s perfect and there are going to be some things
that you can’t “green” in your life. Take me for example. I have a
45 minute commute everyday to and from work but I drive a fuel
efficient vehicle and make more of an effort to green other aspects of
my life such as recycling and cleaning with environmentally friendly
products. The most important thing is that you are trying to live a
healthier, greener life and that you are conscious of your impact on
the environment and others around you.
Have a great day everyone!

In honor of Jessica Simpson taking a stand and being published (on a cover no less) make-up free and au-natural….I thought I’d do this week’s look of her (yes, again…what can I say, she’s my favorite)….
And this week, I’m going to attempt to do fashion on a budget…
….and based on the results of my new year resolutions, budget is not a word I use often, so this could be interesting!!!

Sunglasses for $9.50

Earrings for $8.98

Bangles for $32.00

Bracelets for $19.50

Necklace for $19.00

Rosary Necklace for $18.00

Wrap Dress for $65.00
And yes, I am aware the dress is in blue….just check the site, it’s available in red there…..
As for the shoes….we all have our favorite pair of black heels…so dust those bad boys off and have fun!!

Ok, so my goal was to update my resolutions the beginning of every month…..
Since THAT didn’t happen, better late than never?!
1-Running….I’m still at it and can run almost 3km now….so pysched!! And I’m keeping at it because……ahhhhhh….I signed up for a 5K!!! May 22nd, my friend W. and I are running!!!!! I actually signed up for a 5K and may or may not have whimpered as I registered…I’ll keep you updated!
2-Climbing a mountain…still waiting on the weather for this one…
3-Driving standard…crap…forgot about this one…ok, I’m going to tackle this one before the week is out.
4-McDonald’s…ok, I caved one day and immediately regretted it. It’ll be easier to keep now, their food doesn’t taste like food. Gross!
5-Saving $$…still doing good here, I love automatic withdrawal. The first of the month the money moves into the savings account and I have another account that I move money into on my own. Not only am I saving money, but this has opened up the world of online banking to me. Honesty, before now, I had never bothered. Now I love it, AND am saving the world one less paper statement at a time!
6-Budget…….yah, this one died a slow, painful death…maybe next year.
7-Invite people over for dinner……well, if I could stop setting off the darn smoke alarm, I might be more inclined to have company over…my cooking is a work in progress.

I think this is a style that works right now…
Since mother nature can’t decide…..
…….is it spring or winter?!?

I love a great ballcap….oh so perfect for bad hair days…
And this jacket!! Turquoise leather!! LOVE!

Add a cute belt to your favorite jeans and voila!!!

Combine these three pieces and you have a great spring/winter/spring/winter look!!

On blustery, wintery, wind-howling days like this…….
…wouldn’t these be fabulous?!
This chair makes me want to read a book…

I just want to climb in this bed,
pull the covers over my head and have a nap…
…a beautiful, long, undisturbed nap….

Or this bed……mmmmm…snuggly…

Now this makes me want a hot bath and a good book…..

And this bedroom….huge crackling fire….and a long nap….

Are you noticing that I may have mentioned the word nap a few times?!?!
I’ve been up since 5:30 this morning…..I’m sleepy.

If you haven’t heard, I get to redo our bathroom! I love it! And now, my new favorite thing to do is watch home decorating shows while working out. Have you heard of Sarah’s House??!?!
Sarah Richardson is fantastic….and this season she’s redoing a farmhouse. The decorating isn’t 100% practical for farm life, but the overall look is GORGEOUS!! I am in absolute awe of how she can pick fabric and create a whole look, and the colors….amazing!!
Actually, I’m quite jealous of how she can create such gorgeous rooms….her talent is amazing! Granted she has an unlimited budget, a whole staff of people helping her and all the time in the world to peruse stores for that perfect item….
Ok, now I’m thinking I want this job. Where do I apply?!
This bathroom is sooooo calm…

And this is from Sarah’s own cottage at the Lake. I swoon over this dining room!!

I LOVE the blues in this….

This kitchen makes me want to cook…….and that takes A LOT!!

I want this chandelier…

Again, loving the blue!!

Everything about this I like……so nice!

The orange in this….so pretty!

And now I need to get decorating!!!!
