Small town parade…

This past Saturday was our local town’s “Sport’s Day”…basically our version of a county fair. And nothing is complete without a parade!! My darling husband was SO looking forward to taking  “The Big Boys” and wagon in it.

….it’s something that has been on his bucket list forever

Nothing like a small town parade to make you smile!

Our baby’s room…

I tend to be a little unconventional when it comes to decorating…I love color and trying new things.

So it should be no surprise that our baby’s room is burnt orange!

We painted and decorated it this way for our first baby, and because it is so gender neutral, when baby #2 came along, we didn’t have to change a thing!

This we got at Cowboy Christmas in Las Vegas a few years ago…I didn’t get the company’s card and can’t remember the name. I LOVED that company, so if you have any idea…

My husband is a HUGE Johnny Cash fan and so as a surprise my Mom put this up on the wall while we were at the hospital having baby #1…he LOVED it!!

My Mom also made this curtain for the room, and she recovered the chair, and made the crib skirt, sheets and made a quilt…

Thanks Mom!!! I love you!

This lamp is my Dad’s from when he was a kid.

He remembers looking at it every night and dreaming about how he was going to be a cowboy when he grew up.

Hope my kids have the same dreams…

And I admit this is a funny photo to have taken/added, but I LOVE this furnace grate and I refinished the hardwood myself. We pulled up the pink carpet that was there when we moved in and found the original hardwood! I spend about a month (pregnant!) sanding, staining and varnishing the floor and LOVE it!! I have big plans to do the whole upstairs one room at a time. This photo inspires me to get started right away!!

I love this room, not only because of all the memories from the babies, but because it was the first room that I decorated when we moved in. It has my (our) stamp on it and feels like home every time I am in there. Can’t wait to show you more of our house/my decorating!! Have a great day!

Accessories…

In the past I’ve written about wardrobe basics and what purses are vital to own….and yes, I believe purses are necessary for life…just like air and food! So today I’m gonna talk about accessories!!!!!!

Are you as excited as I am?!!?

Since this is a topic that I could talk about FOREVER….I’ll take it easy on you and break it down into a few posts….

The first thing is the WHY…

To me, accessories are what adds my personality to my clothes. A white tee is just a white tee…

until you add your favorite necklace, and then…magic!!!

And really, who doesn’t like a little magic in their lives?!

Accessories are there to add the flash and fun to our clothes, so make sure you try new things….if you adore those HUGE chandelier earrings that brush your shoulders, go for it. Life is too short, don’t be afraid of making “mistakes”, if you love it that’s all that matters. And if you have pieces  that you are saving for a special occasion…wear them today! Everyday is special, so why have something you treasure hidden away in your room? Bring it out and show it off! My mom gave me this advice after a dear friend of hers passed away. Mom had some diamond earrings that Dad had given her years ago that were sitting in her dresser waiting for the right occasion. The day of the funeral my Mom put those earrings in and has worn them everyday since. Sure, they might be a little flashy for mowing the lawn, but they make her smile and remind her of her dear friend and my dad. I can’t think of a better reason than that to fall in love with accessories. They make you happy and show the world who you are….I think my personal accessories scream flashy, fabulous and fun…

What do yours say? Or better yet…what do you want them to say?!

This week on the farm…

This week the world-famous Calgary Stampede kicked off…which means Calgary basically shuts down for  10 days and enjoys lots of sun, rodeo and ummm, beverages.

So, around here that means….haying.

Yes, exciting times.

This week my darling husband got the discbine out of the shed, tuned it up and started cutting.

He averages about 100 acres in a day (12-16 hrs) if everything goes smoothly. But, of course, life on the farm never goes smoothly. So 3 days in we have had 2 breakdowns. Minor ones, but still annoying! At this point we have 180 acres down and 200 to go.

Once the hay is cut it needs 3-7 days to cure (dry) in the hot sun, then it’s time to rake (pile two swathes together) and bale.

*that's our farm in the background*

But for now, we are cutting…and praying that the rain stays away till the hay is baled and stacked…

Which around Calgary Stampede time is wishful thinking….has there ever been a stampede that it didn’t rain (or hail)?!

Love…

My wild and woolly days…

Well, its Calgary Stampede time (YAHOO!) and  if we make it to Calgary for a day that will be great…because between kids and haying…life is a little busier these days.

But, about 9 years ago, I was there everyday!

I had the FABULOUS experience of riding for the Calgary Stampede Ranchgirls for 5 summers and loved every minute of it!

The Calgary Stampede Ranchgirls are those beautiful ladies that open the rodeo each and everyday carrying the flags and getting the crowd ready for some fabulous entertainment. And boy, is it exciting!

Thousands of cheering people, fast music and fireworks!

And nothing is more exciting than horses and fireworks!

*I’m on the bottom row, 4th from the right*

So much fun!

So, if you see those lovely ladies out there this week, give them a wave and a YAHOO!!

Love…

These girls are gonna be big!!

I heard my new favorite song on my sattelite radio the other day and WOW!! The Janedear Girls are amazing and one look at their first video and I am hooked! I can’t wait for them to get an album out…I LOVE their style. Keep an eye on these ladies because I think they are going to be huge very soon!!
