His girls…

My husband and his girls…(this was taken right before he left on a weekend camping trip in the mountains).

This was taken this past summer…I’m more than a little pregnant behind the camera here, hence I’m not on a horse…

For the last 3 years he has gone on this trip, and for the last 3 years, I’ve been either pregnant or breastfeeding….maybe this year I’ll get to go?!? Wish us luck!

My New Year’s Resolutions….

This should be titled, “The things I want to do this year but probably won’t”…’Cause I should be honest with you and myself…I do have a newborn…and a 2 year old…and a big house that should be cleaned much more often…and a busy husband who, for some reason, likes having clean socks and underwear everyday…

But just incase I DO manage to meet my resolutions, this is my plan! A long, long, long time ago I kept a journal (this was pre married and pre kids…LOADS of time on my hands!). And in this journal I wrote out a long list of things I want to do in this lifetime…and I mean big ambitious things! Like climb a mountain (#25), own a pair of Manolo shoes (#50), travel to Italy (#47), learn to surf (#27)…etc. I’ve been adding to it over the years and things actually have been crossed off as I have accomplished them…the surfing one (!), traveling to Australia and New Zealand, lying on a hot, tropical beach…and so on…

Anyways, the point of this ramble is that I am going to try to accomplish AT LEAST 3 things off that long list this year. I’ve picked this goal for two reasons, 1- it’ll be fun and 2- I need to remind myself often this year that I’m more than just a mommy, wife, a maid, and chef….of course my family already knows this and remind me this everyday, but I need to remind myself once in a while. It’s an important thing to do…it’ll keep me sane through the every 2 hour feedings and make me feel like me. That is a strange sentence, but anyone who’s been a new mom can relate…it’s easy to lose yourself when there is so much demand on your time and energy and as my wonderfully wise mom once  said “You’ll be a better mom to your kids if you have your own life too.”.

So, wish me luck in my adventures (although I doubt this year’s 3 things will be that outrageous or adventurous) and I’ll keep you updated on which ones I pick and how it works out!!

My husband and I just got back from visiting Santa!

Okay…the kids were the ones who actually sat on his lap, and got their picture taken, and got the candy cane, but it felt like Christmas! Does that make sense? You know what I’m talking about, those things that you just have to do, smell, see, taste, before it REALLY feels like Christmas.

One of those things for me is (besides seeing Santa) is the smell of fresh paint. Weird, I know.

But every year, as far back as I can remember, our house has undergone a reno right before Christmas. Maybe it’s that my mom works best under pressure (like 30 people arriving in 24 hrs) or that my farmer dad only has time for these projects in December..but either way, the smell of fresh paint brings tears to my eyes and that warm gushy feeling that you only get at Christmas. I love it!

Merry Christmas everyone!!

My latest obsessions…

Lately there have been a few things that I cannot seem to stop thinking about! So, I thought I’d tell you all about them and then I won’t be alone in obsessing over these FAB items!!!
  • Piggy Paint…, love, love this for my daughter. I have a VERY girly-girl (I wonder where she gets that from?!) and she asks everyday to paint her fingers. So of course I’ve been using my nail polish and thinking nothing of it…opps! The amount of toxins and chemicals in “grownup” polish is crazy and while I was in a new and very posh baby store in Camrose, AB (from Kicks to Kids), I found Piggy Paint. It is non-toxic, water-based and hypoallergenic and the colors are fantastic. So of course I bought my little girl one and promptly went on the website ( and will be ordered more for stocking stuffers. I’ve also decided to toss all my old polish and share hers…if it’s healthy for her, I should be doing the same! Now all I have to do is decide on a color…”Forever Fancy” or “Girls Rule!”
  • What color to paint one of our bathrooms….It’s little and right off of our kitchen/porch (basically the one all our guests use). My incredible husband bought me a gorgeous blue and white porcelain sink on our last trip to Mexico (and then lugged it around for the rest of the day AND managed to get it home unbroken!!! LOVE HIM!) and I really want to use it in this bathroom and go for a Mexican/South-western theme. This is a very hot trend right now, not only in decor, but in clothing and accessories as well! (As pointed out in other blogs!!). I plan to hang my collection of crosses on one wall (all various colors and textiles) and I would LOVE a Mexican yellow or red, but worry that with a blue/white sink that will be too much. Maybe a light brown? Any suggestions??

  • Coffee…I’m 98% sure that the reason I can’t stop thinking about this is because I had my 2nd baby about 7 weeks ago! He’s not much of a sleeper and LOVES to eat, so I’m averaging about 1- 2 hours a night of sleep in row…not complaining but it does explain why I can’t stop obsessing over coffee ALL DAY!! I love all and any flavoured cream and adore specialty coffees from any coffee chain. Although I’ve come to realize I’m not that brave with regards to branching out in my choices, I mean if I’m going to pay $5 a cup, I want to know I will like it!

All of these are very random topics, but like I said, I can’t stop thinking about them and wanted to share! And I’m totally interested in YOUR “can’t stop thinking about it” items…maybe what you are making/giving for Christmas or just something you heard about or seen recently! I’d love for you to share!

Hello world!

Hello and Welcome to The Farmer’s Trophy Wife blog!!

I’m Cathryn…a mom of two, a farmer’s wife and a nurse. I’m LOVE, LOVE, LOVE anything that sparkles or shines and will be the first to admit that although slightly impractical out on the farm, I love my fashion and glam. I’ve been known to work the Chanel lip gloss while out sorting cows and, although my husband laughs at me, own the biggest sunglasses I can find out here! And the “Farmer’s Trophy Wife” title is self-made and very tongue in cheek…what farmer has the time or patience for a high maintenance woman!?

This blog will be about everything and anything that my little heart desires and is really something I’ve created so that my day isn’t ALL about diapers, potty training and where my husband might have left his gloves or wallet or glasses or…

So, I hope you enjoy and feel free to comment, I’d love to hear from you!!!
